I almost choked

On An errant piece

of ripened watermelon.

It Took the reigns

And Decided to breach

my defenseless windpipe.

I struggled

Alone on my couch —

The jail we sentence

all our elderly too —

Panic raw and wild

Surged through my system.

However, a voice

inside my head

Calmly asserted

“it is not your time.”

Unseen forces

removed the piece.

I reached into my mouth,

Grabbed and destroyed

The carcass with my teeth,

And Upon swallowing,

I had a revelation.

You have work yet to do

So I began — once again —

To look for my purpose.
