Aspens Turning
Leaves dressed in gold and green do gaily dance.
They twirl through Colorado flying high .
In Aspen, leaves spin laughing as they prance
While paying homage to the sunny sky.
The trees smile at their children’s merriment,
And tell the mountains to join in the fun.
Such beauty must be truly heaven sent:
Creation of the father and the son.
But soon harsh winds give way to winter’s storm
As snow will bury beauty in bright white.
Trees cry for leaves which keep them safe and warm
As the afternoon of fall’s now winter’s night.
Still spring’s promise comes to all at winter’s end.
Perhaps, in spring, my broken heart will mend.
