Heartstrings

Brown eyes and a sweet smile radiating joy

A small hand that takes my larger one

Holding on with all the faith in the world

In my ability to protect and care for him

And the pull on my heartstrings is permanent

And his name is indelibly tattooed on my heart

And in this moment I know

That I will battle monsters

And sacrifice everything

To protect this gift of life

That I have been entrusted with

And I will do in gladly without reservation

Because the love is so powerful it can move mountains
