On the Ground Looking Upward

It broke my heart in pieces

Seeing her defeat,

This bright young girl,

vivacious, full of potential,

Her eyes full of tears

fixed on the ground.

Despair in every ounce

of her being,

her shoulders hunched,

Hiding her tear filled gaze,

So, I put my arm around

her, urging her to look up

At the sun blazing brightly

a clear blue cloudless sky

You are on this earth -

This ground where we

As humans reside-

For only a short time,

But up there is YOUR

destiny and purpose

Up there is limitless sky

Up there is a sun that

shines each new day

Bringing with it

a fresh start to change,

To live, to love, to explore

possibilities that are yours

Alone to experience
