Shocking Words

Sometimes I feel

The burning need

To truly shock you

with my words.

Maybe then your eyes

Will finally open,

And you will

-For the first time ever-

See me.

Not the me

You have created

In your mind

To ease your conscience,

But the real me.

You will see

The blazing fire

Of my unlimited anger;

You will see my

Bottomless seething

Regret at the situation

You have trapped

Me in: this arbitrary stasis.

Where I feel

That I must live

Up to some imaginary

Code you have created

Intended to overwrite

My true DNA,

Intended to soften

My razor sharp edges,

Turning them into

Something subdued

deemed more appropriately

Numbingly normal

in your eyes.
