Tools of the Trade
Words are tools of communication-
The keys to arriving at our destination.
They can cause damnation or salvation,
Elicit fear or jubilation,
Cause revolution or annihilation,
Confess our love or express frustration-
Their powers beyond compare.
Use your words carefully as they break hearts,
Tear communities and marriages apart,
Create new governments who then chart
The future of all those within.
Words can have power when we pray-
Fall on our knees and gladly obey-
The desire to use our words to relay
Our love for our fellow kin.
Words bring absolution when we stray
And ask forgiveness when we say,
“We are sorry for the pain we caused today.”
Words let us begin again.
Words have power; this is true
The choice belongs to me and you:
Use our power to bring truth and light-
Use our power to make our future bright.
