Waiting for Rain

Even if the sun shines bright,

And flowers bloom and butterflies dance

From morning until night.

Inside me lives a searing pain,

Hidden from other’s sight.

I shield myself from the worlds peering eyes.

While I I see others breeze through life

With clear skies in their countenance.

I instead feel so helpless inside

With no hope of sustenance.

Walking beneath a pall and gloom

Which always hovers over me

A shadow of impending doom

Stops sunshine from breaking through,

Caging me in secret misery.

When I finally think life is good,

Conflict waits around the bend,

So I’m always waiting in fear

For the thunderous rains to finally descend.

Yet still I hope my world clears up

And fair weather could be the norm.

But until then with bated breath,

I’ll look over my shoulder for approaching storms.

And even though I have nothing to gain

Each day I wake up waiting for rain.
